BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES


Robert Leon Kelly

Robert Leon Kelly is a North Slavey Dene and was born in Inuvik in the Northwest Territories. He currently resides in the Sahtu region of the NWT in the community of Fort Good Hope. Mr. Kelly has a certificate in Management Studies, a diploma in Addiction Studies and is a certified Alcohol and Drug Counsellor. He also has a certificate from the Territorial School of Community Government in Law, Land Claims & Self-Government.

Mr. Kelly is actively involved in the community and has held numerous positions in Fort Good Hope. He is currently serving a second term on the K'asho Got'ine Charter Community Council and is former President of the Yamoga Land Corporation, where he presently sits on the board of directors. He has also served on the board of the Sahtu Secretariat Incorporated, K'ahsho Got'ine Land Corporation, the District Education Authority, K'ahsho Got'ine Justice Committee, and the Fort Good Hope Dene Community Council. He was also the co-ordinator for Fort Good Hope's delegation to the 35th Dene National Assembly.

Mr. Kelly possesses several years of experience working in addictions counselling and community justice. He is also the Sahtu representative on the Aboriginal Sports Circle of the Western Arctic. He is involved in various traditional and non-traditional activities within the community such as volleyball, hockey, drumming, and handgames.

Camilla Rabisca

Camilla Rabisca was born in Fort Good Hope in the Sahtu region of the Northwest Territories. For 26 years, she and her husband lived off the land, hunting, fishing and trapping. Upon moving back to Fort Good Hope in the late 1980's, she worked with the local high school teaching traditional survival, hunting and fishing skills. Ms. Rabisca has also been trained as a Canadian Ranger.

Ms. Rabisca sat on the local education board for two terms and was an active member of the Hunter and Trappers Association for a decade. For six years, she sat on the Renewable Resources Council, where she continues to play an active role.

Ms. Rabisca has deep roots in the Sahtu, having lived there for the better part of her life. She is fluent in the Dene language and has extensive knowledge of the land in the region.
