THE AUDIO FEATURES of our website require that you have
an
audio player installed on your computer. An audio player is a piece
of software that allows you to listen to music over the Internet. In addition
to the audio player itself you will, of course, require a computer that has
a sound card and speakers (this is standard equipment on modern computers).
We have two sorts of audio available on our website: the
Legislative Assembly
proceedings use
RealAudio while our
Island Music Radio uses
streaming MP3 files.
Windows
If you have a
Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 or XP-based computer, you can use the
free RealAudio player, version 8 or later, to listen to both RealAudio and MP3 files.
You can download the
RealPlayer
software for free from RealNetworks.
If you want to listen to
Island Music Radio,
we recommend the free Windows Media Player program.
Macintosh
If you have a
Mac OS version 8, 9 or X-based computer, you can use the
free RealAudio player, version 8 or later, to listen to both RealAudio and MP3 files.
You can download the
RealPlayer
software for free from RealNetworks. Note that there is no
native version of the
RealPlayer for Mac OS X, but you can use the Mac OS 9 version under classic mode.
If you just want to listen to
Island Music Radio,
a better choice might be the free
iTunes program, which is
built in to Mac OS 9 and OS X.
UNIX
If you have a
UNIX-based computer, you can use the
free RealAudio player, version 8 or later, to listen to both RealAudio and MP3 files.
You can download the
RealPlayer
software for free from RealNetworks. Versions of RealPlayer are available for
Linux, Irix, AIX, Solaris, hp-ux and Unixware.
If you just want to listen to
Island Music Radio,
and you're running Linux,
a better choice might be the free
FreeAmp program.
The free
XMMS player is also available for Linux and Solaris.
