The Employment Development Agency provides employment opportunities and training incentives to targeted individuals in Prince Edward Island.
The Agency, with the cooperation of community groups, businesses and governments, aims to create meaningful employment opportunities to channel the energy, creativity and skills of Islanders to better insure their continued position in the workforce.
Jobs for Youth Program
The Jobs for Youth Program provides wage support to Island employers to create additional Summer employment opportunities for Island students between the ages of 16 and 29. The Program has two components: Non-Profit Sector Component and Private Sector Component.
Special Projects Program
The Special Projects Program provides wage support for projects which provide employment and training opportunities for employment disadvantaged Islanders over 30 years of age. Either non-profit organizations in Prince Edward Island or municipal governments incorporated in Prince Edward Island, including their sponsored agencies, may apply. The wage rate for this program is $7.44/hr.
Post-Secondary Student Program
The Post-Secondary Student Program [PDF] is a summer employment program designed to create summer employment for post-secondary students. The Program provides a financial incentive to Island employers who provide students with summer employment in their field of study. Eligible employers can include private, non-profit and public sector employers operating on Prince Edward Island. Students must have graduated Grade 12 or are attending a post-secondary institution full-time in the current year and intend to return to a post-secondary institution in the Fall of the current year, be a resident of Prince Edward Island, eligible to work in Canada and be registered with the Central Jobs Registry of the Employment Development Agency.
The Central Jobs Registry is the employment referral service of the Employment Development Agency of the Government of Prince Edward Island. The Central Jobs Registry service refers unemployed Islanders to positions funded through the Agency's employment creation programs.
An employment service designed to assist unemployed Islanders find employment. Clients will receive assistance making informed career decisions, understanding the labour market, developing a realistic employment plan and learn effective job search skills. It is funded through the Canada/Prince Edward Island Labour Market Development Agreement.
