Gateway Village
A must stop on any visit to Prince Edward Island, Gateway Village, is located conveniently at the
foot of the dramatic new Confederation Bridge. In one easy visit, you will be introduced to the history and culture
of the Island, learn about Islanders' modes of transportation across the Northumberland Strait including the construction
of the 13-kilometre mega-bridge and find out why our Island is world renowned.
Enjoy Gateway Village as you begin your tour of the Island or as a final destination before you say
goodbye. A unique adventure awaits as you experience the legends of our land, sea and people. Admission is free with
plenty of parking for cars, tour buses and motor homes. All facilities are wheelchair accessible and friendly courteous
staff will ensure your visit is memorable.
Come, join our historical characters as they explore author Lucy Maud
Montgomery's island. Gateway Village portrays a turn-of-the-century PEI streetscape encompassing an
exposition pavilion, food and retail services, liquor store, visitor information centre and the Festivals at
Gateway. The 29-acre development also includes a three-acre park.
The Gateway Exposition Pavilion, open all year round, offers guided tours describing the Island's
rich heritage and culture through multimedia displays and exhibits focusing on the sea, the shore, the land and its
people.
Experience the Legend of the Burning Ship, activate a moving sculpture of the fisheries, discover the
building blocks of our close-knit society and walk through the indoor garden with a vision of
Lucy Maud Montgomery, the creator of Anne of Green Gables.
The history of travel across the Northumberland Strait is portrayed from the early iceboats of the 1800s to
the construction of the Confederation Bridge. The bridge connects Prince Edward Island to the mainland and is one of the
longest continuous multi-span bridges in the world, five times longer than the San Francisco Bay Bridge.
Gateway Village food and retail services promise a unique experience as you savour Island food products
and shop for someone special.
The Festivals at Gateway Village will offer a preview of many different festivals and events that
take place during the summer. Live performances and craft demonstrations offer a sample of Island life and culture.
At the Gateway Village Visitor Information Centre, you will be offered a personal welcome. Here,
visitors can map out their own itinerary for their Island vacation by using interactive kiosks or by speaking with a
travel counsellor.
