TRANSPORT MINISTER ANNOUNCES
APPOINTMENTS TO NORTH FRASER PORT AUTHORITY

OTTAWA — Transport Minister Jean-C. Lapierre today announced the appointment of John C.R. Allan and Doug Butterworth, both of Vancouver, British Columbia to the board of directors of the North Fraser Port Authority.

"Both Mr. Allan and Mr. Butterworth have impressive backgrounds in management," said Mr. Lapierre. "Their experience will serve them well as they take up their duties on the board of directors at the North Fraser Port Authority."

John C.R. Allan holds a bachelor of science degree in forestry and a diploma in sales and marketing from the University of British Columbia. He currently is self-employed in the forest and pulp and paper industries and has previously worked for Pacifica Papers and MacMillan Bloedel Ltd. Mr. Allan is a member of the Association of British Columbia Professional Foresters.

Doug Butterworth holds a bachelor of commerce and business administration degree from the University of British Columbia. He co-founded Taiga Forest Products Ltd. and Envirofor (Alberta) Ltd. He has also been a consultant for the British Columbia Lumber Trade Council and the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. Mr. Butterworth was a director for the North American Wholesale Lumber Association and a member of the British Columbia Ministry of Forest’s Softwood Committee.

The North Fraser Port Authority is the Canada Port Authority (CPA) established to manage North Fraser Port, effective July 1, 1999, under the Canada Marine Act. As a CPA, the North Fraser Port Authority benefits from greater management flexibility, including increased freedom to develop contracts and borrow money from commercial lenders.

The Port of North Fraser, located in Greater Vancouver, has direct access to the Strait of Georgia and is near the Vancouver International Airport, arterial roadways and railways. The port handles an average of 17 million tonnes of cargo annually.
