Urban Policy

The Branch monitors and provides advice in a broad urban transportation policy context, such as public transit.  In this role, the Branch undertakes research, analysis, and consultations with provinces/territories and industry stakeholders to address issues faced by the sector, including the development of policy frameworks for the federal involvement in urban transportation.  The Branch also monitors and provides policy advice on the developments, trends, infrastructure funding, external research, and initiatives related to urban transportation.

Activities

  • Provide advice to the Minister on broad urban transportation and infrastructure funding issues.
     
  • Monitor the broad performance of federal urban transportation infrastructure investments.
     
  • Provide advice on the development of infrastructure funding mechanisms.
     
  • Research on pan-Canadian urban transportation issues.

The Branch works closely with colleagues within Transport Canada as well as other government departments on urban-related policy issues.
