Here in our Lieutenant Governors gallery, you can explore the history of Island Lieutenant Governors-past.
Thirty-nine people have served as Lieutenant Governor; for each we have a picture available. A brief biography is also
available for most Lieutenant Governors.
The purpose behind this gallery is twofold: (1) To compile and
preserve the limited information available on Island Governors,
Lieutenant Governors and Administrators who collectively - past and
present - play a very large role in Prince Edward Island's history as
Britain's representatives. In addition, it is our hope that this
gallery serves as (2) an informative and educational tool for all
persons interested in the history of the individuals who earned the
title of Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Administrator for the Island.
Elections PEI has tried to be as accurate as humanly possible in
presenting this information; however, if you should find an error or
omission, please contact our office so we may continue with
our mission of providing accurate information on the history of Prince
Edward Island's Governors, Lieutenant Governors and Administrators.
For the purpose of this report the term Governor appears for all Governors from the time of the creation
of the Colony in 1763 until Prince Edward Island entered Confederation on July 1, 1873. Following July 1, 1873 all are identified as
Lieutenant Governor.
All pictures are courtesy of the PEI Public Archives and Records Office and the Lieutenant Governor's
Office. Reference numbers for the archival photographs are included in the individual Lieutenant Governor's pages.
In addition to the individual web pages linked to below, we have prepared the
Guide to Governors, Lieutenant Governors and Administrators [2323KB PDF file], a 59-page document
that contains the same information you will find below.
