Representing the Minister in the Yukon, the Regional Director General reports to INAC's head office in Ottawa and is responsible for achieving the elements of INAC's priorities and role within the Territory. An executive services unit and a communications unit support the current Regional Director General, Roy Bird. Biography for Roy Bird, Regional Director General, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada Yukon Region![]() A member of the Montreal Lake Cree Nation in Saskatchewan, INAC Yukon Regional Director General Roy Bird has extensive leadership experience at both elected and appointed levels. Mr. Bird served in his band government for over nineteen years, first as a councillor and then as Chief. He spent three years as Third Vice-Chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations, and served as chairman of the Saskatchewan Indian Equity Foundation, which is owned and operated by Saskatchewan's 70 First Nations. During that period, Mr. Bird played a vital role in the development of the First Nations Bank of Canada and the Prince Albert Development Corporation. From 1989 to 1991 he chaired the board of the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College, which is now the First Nations University of Canada. In 1997 Mr. Bird was appointed Regional Director General of the Indian and Northern Affairs Canada Interchange Canada Program for the Saskatchewan Region, and he served as Co-chair of the National Indebtedness Review and the National First Nation Child & Family Services Review. In 2004, he accepted the position of Regional Director General for Indian and Northern Affairs Canada Manitoba Region, then became acting Regional Director General for the department's Alberta region.
