FULL-TIME TEMPORARY(EXCLUDED)POSITION

Location:QUEEN ELIZABETH HOSPITAL (SURGICAL - UNIT #2), Charlottetown

Beginning Immediately for approximately 6 months

As a member of the management team, the Nurse Manager participates in the development and organization of nursing services in the Division. Their role includes strategic planning, quality improvement, clinical standards, risk management, patient care program planning, evaluation. Each Nurse Manager is responsible for the fiscal human and material resources assigned to their unit.

Duties will include:

- developing and implementing a continuous quality improvement plan;

- planning and implementing effective and efficient delivery of patient and family focused nursing care;

- participating in the setting and implementation of organizational goals, priorities and strategies;

- providing for allocation, optimum use and evaluation of resources such that the Standards of Nursing Practice are met;

- determining staffing needs, participating in the staffing process, performing performance appraisals, and maintaining regular staffing rotations;

- maintaining information systems appropriate for planning, budgeting, implementing and monitoring the quality of nursing;

- promoting the advancement of nursing knowledge and the utilization of research findings;

- providing leadership that is visible and practical;

- evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of nursing care;

- attending and participating in standing ad hoc nursing medical committee;

- preparing reports as required or requested;

- other duties as required.

HOURS OF WORK: 75 Hrs. Bi-Weekly/ Days / Monday - Friday

Qualifications: The successful applicant must have current registration or be eligible for registration with the Association of Nurses of Prince Edward Island and possess a Bachelor of Nursing Degree. Completion of the introduction to Nursing Management Program through the Canadian Hospital Association would also be an asset. Several years progressive and successful nursing experience in the area of surgical nursing is required. Previous experience in nursing management is an asset. Demonstrated leadership, communication and problem-solving skills and background of the pursuit of advancing nursing knowledge is necessary. The successful applicant must have a good previous work and attendance record. Successful applicant must provide a satisfactory criminal records check prior to beginning employment.
