Population Secretariat

About the Population Secretariat

The foremost labour market issue facing Prince Edward Island is skill shortages or gaps. The pace of economic growth coupled with demographic and other trends are exerting pressure on the provincial labour market.

The secretariat is designed to expand the provinces population by 1.50% per annum. Points of focus are to retain population, especially young people aged 15 to 29 years; to repatriate "Islanders Away" and to position Prince Edward Island as a niche destination for international migrants.
