Professional Profile of Jack Shaw

"with the right tools and technologies properly implemented, organizations will find themselves ready to take on the digital future - and win!"

Jack Shaw grew up in Aurora, Ohio and has since traveled the world. Jack began his fascination with digital business technologies and electronic commerce over 25 years ago during his tenure as Treasury Systems Analyst for Esmark Inc. Jack designed and implemented one of the first sophisticated telecommunications-based cash management systems for this $5 billion multinational food company.

In 1977, Jack became Assistant Treasurer for Martin Oil Service Inc. and furthered his experience with business processes and information flow by designing and implementing new cash management and accounts receivable systems for this $200 million oil wholesaler.

In 1979, Jack began working with Management Science America Inc. (known then as MSA and since acquired by Dun & Bradstreet Software) where he had responsibility for product design, marketing, and product direction for all supply chain management systems.

Jack joined the Accredited Standards Committee X12 (ASC X12), of the U.S. National EDI Standards Committee, in 1982. In 1984 he founded and served as chair for ASC X12's Subcommittee on Education and Implementation. In 1988, Jack was the keynote speaker for the first ASC X12 National EDI Conference.

Jack's early experience proved to be invaluable in testing his ideas on using emerging information technologies to change the face of business.

In 1985, Jack left MSA to form his own company. Through consulting and educational seminars, Jack has deepened his experience and, over the years, has brought his expertise to companies in numerous industries. In addition to in-house seminars, Jack has taken the platform in front of more than 1,000 audiences around the world.

Jack founded a monthly periodical called the EDI Executive in 1986 that was sold to Phillips Publications and is now published as EDI News. In 1990, Jack published the EDI Project Planner. In 1995, Jack published Doing Business in the Information Age: Electronic Commerce, EDI, and Reengineering. Designed to be an easily understood strategic planning and implementation manual for businesses of all types, Doing Business has sold over 3,000 copies to date. Jack's newest book is Surviving the Digital Jungle: What Every Executive Needs to Know About eCommerce and eBusiness.

Jack's formal education includes a BS in Business Administration from Yale University and an MBA in Finance & Marketing from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. In 1986, Jack was a member of the first group accredited by the Treasury Management Association as a Certified Cash Manager (CCM).
