Coat to Coast Golfing

Where else could you golf two new courses a day for a week, drive only a few miles and still have ten more to choose from? (And still have cash left to get home!) PEI is known as Canada’s favourite golf destination with good reason: plenty of top-notch courses including the famous Links at Crowbush Cove; short distances between them all; and affordable green fees. Watch for the first edition of the Island’s newest event, The Legends of Golf, June 19-21. We are inviting media to join a golf press tour that will include a chance to meet two true golf legends - Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson.

Back to Nature

Take a tour of Prince Edward Island’s North Cape region and get back to nature. Spend a few days on Judy Bertling’s Pioneer Farm, where the power comes from the sun and the wind and dinner is found right on the farm. Take a day to visit western PEI’s most interesting museums to learn about Irish Moss, potatoes and wind power. Then drop by Backroads Folk Art Gallery to see the world’s largest eggbeater and drop by the Bottle Houses in Mont Carmel for a peek at the ultimate recycling project!

Sign up for the North Cape Coastal Ride

Next September cyclists will line up at PEI’s dramatic North Cape to head out on a two-day event that will end almost 200 kilometres later in Summerside. This brand new cycling road race will take riders into some of the least-known corners of the province, passing along rugged red cliffs and through tiny villages. As the name would suggest the route hugs the coastline for the most part and cyclists will enjoy invigorating sea breezes. The starting point is at the fascinating Atlantic Wind Test Site and Wind Energy Interpretive Museum; the midpoint overnight rest stop is the relaxing Mill River Resort; and the tour ends at the home of the Canadian College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts - no doubt bagpipes will herald the arrival of the participants. www.ride-pei.com

You are Invited to a Beach Party!

Pack your towel and swimsuit for three days lounging on the most beautiful beaches in Atlantic Canada. This beach party/press tour will visit the rare sand dune system at Greenwich, PEI National Park, the singing sands of Basin Head, the lively shores of Cavendish as well as take a boat tour to the sand hills off the shores in west PEI. Guided beach walks, swimming, beachcombing and evening campfires are all on the agenda that seems more like fun than work!

Learning by the Sea

A brand-new learning opportunity has just opened up in North Rustico. This classic fishing port provides plenty of inspiration for the painting, sketching and photography workshops scheduled for the summer at the PEI School of the Arts. Two sessions are planned: July 3-7 and July 10-15. In addition to drawing and painting sessions there will be workshops on Raku Pottery, Tile Mosaic, Woodcarving and even the chance to make a cozy flannel quilt. www.peischoolofthearts.com

Shopping for Island Treasures

In 2007, PEI will be celebrating the Year of the Craft and in preparation for that special year, journalists are invited on a coast-to-coast shopping trip. Join us as we visit studios and boutiques and find out why Prince Edward Island has more artists per capita than anywhere else in Canada. September 2006
