News Release

Changes to the 2006/2007 Migratory Bird Regulations for Labrador

St. John's, NL, November 27, 2006 Environment Canada is advising hunters in Labrador that the traditional December closing dates for the hunting season are still in effect for Ducks (other than Harlequin Ducks and Eiders) Geese and Snipe this year.

The 2006 hunting season for these species in the Northern, Western, and Central Zones of Labrador will close on the second Saturday of December.  Therefore, the last day of this year’s season will be December 9, 2006.

The 2006 hunting season for these species in the Southern Zone of Labrador will close on the third Saturday of December.  Therefore, the last day of this year’s season will be December 16, 2006.

Any changes that the public may have seen referring to an extension of these dates in Labrador, were made in error.  Those changes only apply to hunting zones on the Island of Newfoundland.

If hunters have any questions about the changes to the regulations, they may contact Ray Broccolo, Canadian Wildlife Service Enforcement, 6 Bruce Street, Mount Pearl, Newfoundland, A1N 4T3 or telephone 709-772-5585 or fax (709) 772-2805.
