Aboriginal Awareness Week: May 23-26 2006

National Aboriginal Awareness Week is designated to increase public service awareness of Canada's Aboriginal peoples. This objective is part of the federal government's strategy to foster increased employment and greater retention of Aboriginal people in the public service.

The Aboriginal peoples of the Atlantic include the Innu, Inuit, Mi'kmaq, Maliseet, Metis and Labrador Metis peoples. Environment Canada works with some of these Aboriginal communities and their representative organizations through our work with wildlife management and conservation, environmental protection and meteorological services. The following are projects that illustrate the kind of work we do with Aboriginal communities.

Project Links

The following are Aboriginal links to a variety of organizations and communities through out the Atlantic and Nationally. These links give you information on Aboriginal communities and organizations that work on their behalf, as well as cultural, historical, socio-economic and demographic information.
