Coordination of Enforcement Activities within NWT and Nunavut (map)

Enforcement of Environment Canada, Canadian Wildlife Service (CWS) legislation in the NWT and Nunavut is largely undertaken by Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and Government of Nunavut (GNU) Renewable Resource Officers and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The CWS Wildlife Enforcement Coordinator is responsible for ensuring appropriate enforcement of the Migratory Birds Convention Act (MBCA), the Migratory Bird Sanctuary (MBS) Regulations, the National Wildlife Area (NWA) Regulations, the Canada Wildlife Act (CWA), the Game Export Act, and Wild Animal and Plant Protection and Regulation of International and Interprovincial Trade Act (WAPPRIITA). The Coordinator is also empowered to assist territorial colleagues in enforcing the NWT Wildlife Act.
