First Lake Ecology Project


Project Overview

This cross curricular project will integrate eight different classes at Sackville High School.

Students have been involved in the First Lake Ecology Project (FLEP) since the start of second semester. This cross curricular project integrates eight different classes including:

The final product will be two video presentations one in French and one in English which will be presented to the Sackville Community on June 1 st, 2005, and the implementation of a web based water quality database which will be linked to Environment Canada’s RésEau web portal.

 

 

Students involved have been taking part in various activities including the development of ecosystems in a jar, research on the history of the lake, graphic design of brochures and posters, web design, broadcasting, bi-lingual script writing, film production, translation of documents, letter writing, map creation, and water data collection.

Funding has been received from the Nova Scotia Teacher's Union Project Development Assistance Fund and Environment Canada’s RésEau Partnership Fund.

There are a total of 10 teachers involved. The true test of this project is to demonstrate effective cross curricular applications of technology in an educationally meaningful manner.
