Environmental Assessment
The following links provide examples of the type of expertise available within the Meteorological Service of Canada:

Environmental Assessment involves using scientific and technical knowledge in an effort to determine the potential impacts of a proposed project on the environment as well as the potential impact of the environment on the project. The main goal of environmental assessment is to identify negative effects associated with proposed projects before the projects get underway and to incorporate mitigation measures in the project design so that these effects become negligible.

The environmental assessment work done by MSC-Atlantic is carried out in the context of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.Within the Atlantic region, MSC-Atlantic carries out its environmental assessment activities in partnership with the Environmental Assessment Section of the Environmental Protection Branch.

The suite of scientific and technical expertise that the Meteorological Service of Canada can bring to Environmental Assessment is broad. It includes various aspects of the meteorological and climatological sciences such as local weather and climatology; characteristics of extreme weather events; climate change. Other areas of MSC expertise include atmospheric chemistry, atmosphere-ocean interaction, sea ice and atmospheric modeling on various scales.
