![]() FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEDaley Brothers Limited Pleads Guilty to Improper Ocean DisposalSt. John’s, NF – August 30, 2001 – Daley Brothers Limited, of St. John’s, Newfoundland, pled guilty today to violating Section 124(1)(b) of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act The charge, laid by Environment Canada, relates to an incident on August 9, 2000 in which the company disposed of fish offal outside their designated disposal area, and without the necessary permits. The company’s actions resulted in the offal washing up on a nearby beach in the St. Joseph’s area. The company has been ordered to pay a $10,000 fine, $9500 of which will be directed to the federal government’s Environment Damages Fund. The fund, administered by Environment Canada, is used for environmental assessments and other activities to restore damaged areas of the environment. Under Sections 124(1)(b) of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, it is an offence to load fish offal for the purposes of disposing it without a valid permit.
