New Brunswick Company Charged for Offering Ozone Depleting Substances For Sale

SAINT JOHN --- Sept. 5, 2001 -- Environment Canada has laid charges against Munro Electronics (1988) LTD. and company president Michael J. O’Brien for alleged violations of the Ozone-Depleting Substances Regulation. The charges were as a result of routine inspections carried out in March and April 2001.

The accused are to appear on September 18, 2001, in Provincial Court in Saint John, New Brunswick, to enter a plea in relation to two separate charges in violation of Section 23(2) of the Ozone-Depleting Substances Regulations, which restrict the sale and offering for sale of ozone-depleting products.

The enforcement of these regulations is part of Canada’s contribution and treaty obligation under the Montreal Protocol, which aims to remove ozone-depleting substances from the atmosphere.
