The Saskatchewan Division is responsible for the delivery of the full
range of Environmental Protection Branch programs in Saskatchewan. It
is also the focal point for discussion and joint delivery of projects
and programs with provincial and other federal agencies.
Responsibilities include:
- co-ordination of Environment Canada's specialist information and
knowledge for the review of projects in Saskatchewan that are subject
to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA)
- enforcement of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) and
regulations in cooperation with the Government of Saskatchewan) as per
the "Canada-Saskatchewan Administrative
Agreement for the Canadian Environmental Protection Act"
- enforcement of the pollution prevention provisions of the Fisheries
Act (FA) and regulations in cooperation with the Government of Saskatchewan
as per the "Canada-Saskatchewan Administrative
Agreement for the Control of Deposits of Deleterious Substances under
the Fisheries Act"
- emergency prevention and preparedness, especially at federal facilities
- promotion or advice regarding compliance and pollution prevention,
as well as the delivery of other Environment Canada environmental initiatives
to the public and private sector, including government departments,
industry, and regulatees
- participation in the delivery of many national programs, such as the
National Pollutant Release Inventory and the development of regulations)
- studies related to uranium mining
- administration of CEPA, (Add: and the) Fisheries with the Government
of Saskatchewan.
- provide program secretariat support and expert advice for the Federal
Contaminated Sites Accelerated Action Plan through Interdepartmental
Regional Working Group (IRWG) activities in Prairie and Northern Region.
This includes the technical review of proposals, the support of consistency
in assessments and the provision of guidance and training to departments.
