Following on the heels of the popular stories on the science and conservation of birds on the Afternoon Show on CBC radio One, Dr. Rob Butler continues with new stories about declining shorebirds, nesting herons, and much more.

Dr. Robert W. Butler is a research scientist with the Canadian Wildlife Service of Environment Canada and an adjunct professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada. He has published many books on bird conservation and research including the popular UBC Press bestseller "The Great Blue Heron".

EVENING SPEAKER

Where have all the sandpipers gone? Shorebirds across North America are showing signs that all is not well. Among many species, the numbers of birds has fallen over the past decade or two. Where have all the sandpipers gone? is an illustrated talk of a research adventure from Panama to Alaska to follow the migrations of the Western Sandpiper and attempts being made to reverse the decline of these denizens of the beach.

The big squeeze: how urban sprawl threatens our herons. An illustrated talk on the loss of heron habitats in the Pacific Northwest based on a decade of research described in Dr. Butler's book "The Great Blue Heron".
