Telecommunications Service in Canada: An Industry OverviewSection 6: The Evolution of Competition in the Canadian Telecommunications Service Market6.5 Major Ongoing Regulatory ProceedingsAccess to Multi-dwelling Units, In-building Wiring and Riser Space On August 25, 2000, the CRTC initiated a proceeding under Public Notice CRTC 2000-124 for the development of a fair regulatory approach to providing telephone and cable companies with access to multi-dwelling units. The Commission noted in the public notice that government policy supports end-user choice among broadcasting and telecommunications service providers, including for apartment buildings and office complexes. The Commission is seeking comments on, among other things, the regulatory approach (including possible fees, charges or other terms and conditions) that should be used to facilitate non-discriminatory access and customer choice in multi-dwelling units.
