Notice No. SMSE-013-04

Amendment 4 of RSS-210

Notice is hereby given that Industry Canada is amending Radio Standards Specification 210 (RSS-210), which sets out minimum requirements for the certification of low-power transmitters and receivers.

This RSS was amended in order to include new technical requirements that will allow the certification of General Radio Mobile Service (GMRS) devices operating at a maximum effective radiated power of 2 watts. GMRS equipment that provides a repeater capability may not be certified. The amended version is:

RSS-210, Issue 5, Amendment 4, General Radio Mobile Service (GMRS) Devices

The use of GMRS devices in Canada as early as September 2004 has been announced in Gazette Notice DGTP-001-04. These licence-exempt devices will use a set of frequencies in the frequency range 462/467 MHz.

The application for certification of GMRS radios must be in accordance with spectrum policy SP 462/467 MHz as it relates to the GMRS Alliance (GMRSA) frequency displacement program.
