Canadian know-how is transforming shelter in the 21st century.
Canada's R-2000 standard for house construction offers the most energy efficient and environmentally responsible choices for home buyers.
Developed in partnership between industry and the Government of Canada, R-2000 goes far beyond regular building codes to provide the best use of leading edge, Canadian clean technology.
The ground-breaking ekocomfort system balances home comfort with an alternative to increasing energy costs.
Ekocomfort combines three key units in one system.
A high efficiency gas powered heater provides hot water to the kitchen, bath and laundry.
Space heating and cooling is by forced air through an advanced air handler-which also has an option for radiant floor heating.
And a heat recovery ventilator continuously brings in fresh air while pumping out stale air and controlling moisture.
Elements of Ekocomfort and R-2000 were developed and tested at the Canadian Centre for Housing Technology in Ottawa.
One of two identical homes provides a reference point for the other, which tests innovative products and systems - everything from new water heaters to heat recovery ventilators.
The export version of these housing systems is well named.
Super E houses have introduced the world to Canadian housing technology.
You can find them in Japan, England, Scotland and Ireland.
They save money. And because they're energy efficient -they're responsible to the environment.
Just one more example of how Canadian-made clean energy technologies are providing solutions for a world that needs new ways to respond to climate change.
