Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation's major responsibilities include the following:

Plans, designs, builds, operates, and maintains provincial highways and other government-owned/supported infrastructure.
Provides driver education, licensing standards, and traffic safety programs and manages driver records and problem drivers.
Manages central services to all government departments including accommodation requirements, property acquisition and sale, leasing, air transportation and vehicle fleet operations.
Supports the provision of schools, post-secondary institutions, health facilities, seniors' lodges, municipal transportation, and municipal water/wastewater treatment and distribution.
