Prince Edward Island: Biography MacLean, Steve, P. Eng 
Deputy Minister

Steve MacLean was born in Summerside, PEI, in 1961. He received his early education in one and two room schools at Albany Village and South Milton, and graduated from Charlottetown Rural High School. His university education started at U.P.E.I. (Diploma in Engineering), and he received his Bachelor of Engineering degree (Civil) from the Technical University of Nova Scotia in 1985.

Steve returned home to the Island upon graduation and worked in the private sector for two years before joining the provincial government with the Department of Transportation and Public Works in 1987. While in TPW, he has gained wide exposure to Department operations having had a range of responsibilities in areas of Highway Planning, Highway Construction, and Special Projects. He was Director of Highway Maintenance for five years, and had a brief stint as Chief Engineer. He has been serving as the Department’s Deputy Minister since January 18, 2002.

Professionally, Steve is a member in good standing of the Association of Professional Engineers of Prince Edward Island. He also serves as Director on the Boards of several crown corporations including; Island Waste Management Corporation, PEI Energy Corporation, Golflinks PEI, Crown Building Corporation, and the Economic Development Agency.

Steve resides in Stratford with his wife Mary (Newson) and their children Clay and Grace. His personal interests include, fishing and hunting, playing rec hockey and cheering for his beloved Montreal Canadiens.
