Aboriginal Program Partnerships

The Northern Ecosystem Initiative (NEI) and its partners share a commitment to sustain healthy ecosystems and communities. Recognizing the importance of Aboriginal Peoples in the North, NEI has developed active and evolving partnerships with the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK), the Dene Nation, and the Council of Yukon First Nations (CYFN). These partnerships help build our shared capacity to identify and address ecosystem priorities across the Canadian North.

These partnerships help address knowledge gaps through the application of local and traditional ecological knowledge and methodologies in combination with scientific knowledge and methodologies. Together NEI and its partners are supporting efforts to test and implement innovative research methodologies and resource management approaches.
