News ReleaseFor immediate releases July 26, 2001 BADDECK GRETZKY GOLF EVENT TO AIR NATIONALLY ON GLOBAL TV BADDECK, N.S. -- If you were one of the unfortunate few unable to take in this summer's Wayne Gretzky & Friends Invitational Golf Tournament when it happened live at the Bell Bay Golf Club -- get ready to tune into Global TV this weekend. If you were there and want to relive this great event or see if you can spot yourself in the crowd - tune in also. The Global National Television Network will air its coverage of the Event on Saturday, July 28, between 2 - 4 p.m. and Sunday, July 29 at the same time. It featured NHL superstars Wayne Gretzky, Brett Hull and Joe Sakic in a best-ball competition against Canada's PGA sensation Mike Weir. As a result of attendance at it and the television broadcast, Cape Breton Island's spectacular golf product is becoming better known around the world. "ECBC was pleased to have supported this Event at Bell Bay's magnificent golf course. The success of it will have a positive impact on the Island's tourism industry well into the future", said Rick Beaton, Vice President, Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation. Those benefits include an increased length of stay by golf visitors whose expenditures are significantly higher than those of non-golfing visitors as well as attracting additional tourists, contributing to increased economic impact and spin-off effects to the local economy. Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation offers programs in support of economic development initiatives and is responsible for delivering ACOA' s programs in Cape Breton and the Mulgrave area. -30-For Further Information Contact: Marcie Stanley, ECBC |
