OCEAN VIEW MOTEL EXPANDING TO MEET ACCOMMODATION DEMAND

CHETICAMP, N.S. -- The Ocean View Motel in Cheticamp will expand with Government of Canada assistance. The addition of four new double unit, ocean front cottages will help the facility meet the current demand for accommodations in the Cheticamp area.

The total estimated cost of the project is $275,000. Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation (ECBC) will make a repayable contribution of $137,500 through the Business Development Program. Three permanent seasonal jobs will be created and four full-time seasonal jobs will be maintained.

"This project will diversify the accommodation mix in the Cheticamp area. The Government of Canada is pleased to offer its support to local businesspeople who are committed to their community and improving their businesses," said Rodger Cuzner, Member of Parliament for Bras d'Or- Cape Breton, speaking on behalf of the Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of State for ECBC and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.

"Our seaside location gives our facility an advantage in today's tourism marketplace. Travellers are seeking quality accommodations in unique locations and we are pleased to be able to take advantage of this demand through the expansion. We also appreciate the Government of Canada's support for our business plans," said Guillaume LeBlanc, Ocean View Motel Limited.

Ocean View has been a family owned and operated business since the early 1960s. The motel currently has six rooms and two oceanfront double-unit cottages constructed in 1999. The new cottages are expected to have a Canada Select Rating of 3.5 stars or better which ties into ECBC's guidelines for fixed roof accommodations.

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2000 Federal budget and is therefore built into the existing financial framework.

Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation offers programs in support of economic development initiatives and is responsible for delivering ACOA's programs on Cape Breton Island and in the Mulgrave area.
