ECBC Support Helps Festivals and Events in Victoria County

Victoria County, NS
– A wide variety of festivals and events in Victoria County have received financial support from Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation (ECBC), through its Festivals and Events program. ECBC has committed a total of $185,885 to 47 different projects across Cape Breton Island and Mulgrave. In Victoria County, $31,100 has been committed to
10 local events.

Rick Beaton, Vice-President of ECBC, indicated that in February of 2003 ECBC had issued a request for proposal (RFP). The request invited interested parties to submit a proposal for a festival or event that demonstrated strategic economic impact, project feasibility and sustainability. ECBC offered funding up to $7,500 to incorporated, non-profit organizations that could fulfill the criteria included in the proposal.

“Festivals and events are a way to showcase the wonderful talent and hospitality present in Victoria County,” says Mark Eyking, MP for
Sydney-Victoria, on behalf of the Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of State for ECBC. “This support from ECBC reflects a strong commitment by the Government of Canada to invest in our greatest resources…our people and our culture.”

“Community festivals and events are a great draw for tourists and serve to keep them on the Island longer,” comments Rick Beaton of ECBC. “We are very pleased with the response we have received on this initiative.”

The Festivals and Events program is designed to build capacity and provide quality attractions that will enhance both the tourism and arts and culture sectors on Cape Breton Island.

The 10 projects in Victoria County that will receive non-repayable funding under the Festivals and Events program are:
