Appointments to the ECBC Board of Directors

Sydney, N.S.
- The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of State responsible for Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation (ECBC) and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) announced today, two new appointments and one re-appointment to the ECBC Board of Directors. 

Joining the Board immediately are Messrs. Robert McFadgen of Marion Bridge, N.S. and R. Sonny MacDougall, C.A., of Glace Bay, N.S. 
Ms. Ferne MacLennan of River Denys, N.S. has been re-appointed for a second term. 

“ECBC has an important role to play in the growth and development of the 
Cape Breton Island economy,” said Minister Byrne. “I am confident that the board members appointed today will make a significant contribution to the work of the Corporation. They know and understand Cape Breton and have demonstrated a commitment to improving the economy of the Island. I am pleased that they have agreed to serve their community as members of the ECBC Board of Directors.” 

Born in Glace Bay, Robert McFadgen is a life-long resident of Cape Breton Island. He is currently the president of McFadgen’s Bakery, a business established by his parents in 1948, which has grown under his direction to employ a full-time staff of 30. In addition to his extensive experience in small business, Mr. McFadgen has a keen interest in public and community affairs.

Sonny MacDougall is a chartered accountant with KPMG LLP Chartered Accountants in Sydney, N.S. A resident of Glace Bay, he received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University College of Cape Breton in 1988 and his CA designation in 1991. Mr. MacDougall’s areas of concentration include tax preparation and planning, as well as business plan development and financial forecasting. He is also actively involved in amateur sport, coaching both minor hockey and little league baseball.

Originally named to the ECBC Board of Directors in 1999, Ms. Ferne MacLennan has been re-appointed to serve a second term. A native of Inverness County, Ms. MacLennan is currently an instructor in the faculty of business information technology at the Nova Scotia Community 
College - Strait Campus. She has been a community economic development activist on Cape Breton Island for many years. 

Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation offers programs in support of economic development initiatives and is responsible for delivering ACOA's programs on Cape Breton Island and in the Mulgrave area.
