New 4-Star Inn Opening with Government of Canada Assistance

Chéticamp, N.S.
– The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of State responsible for Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation (ECBC) and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) announced funding today towards the establishment of a new inn in Chéticamp, N.S.

Harbour Restaurant Limited, located on the boardwalk in downtown Chéticamp, will complement its existing restaurant/bar business with the addition of a four–room inn. The new Auberge Bay Wind Suites have achieved a 4-star rating with the Canada Select Rating Program. Each suite is unique with modern but regionally themed décor including nautical, Acadian and Highlands/nature. Three suites have 2-person air-jet baths and one suite is barrier free. All have outside access and an ocean view.

“The Government of Canada is pleased to assist local business people who are prepared to invest in the economic future of their communities,” says
Rodger Cuzner, MP for Bras d’Or-Cape Breton. “Tourism is a major contributor to the Cape Breton economy. These new suites will provide a piece of infrastructure necessary to service the growing demand for quality accommodations and, at the same time, create jobs.”

“There is an increasing need in the area for high-end seaside accommodations,” says Dave Deveau, owner/manager of the Inn. “We look forward to creating a unique experience for visitors who are looking for
Cape Breton charm in luxury surroundings. By encouraging visitors to stay for an extra night or two in Chéticamp, the entire community benefits.”

The total estimated cost of the project is $220,000. Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation will make a repayable contribution of $110,000 through ACOA’s Business Development Program. It is estimated that four, new, full-time seasonal jobs will be created upon completion of the project in addition to the utilization of local trades people during construction.

Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation offers programs in support of economic development initiatives and is responsible for delivering ACOA's programs on Cape Breton Island and in the Mulgrave area.
