New Appointment to the ECBC Board of Directors
Sydney, N.S. – The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of State responsible
for Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation (ECBC) and the Atlantic Canada
Opportunities Agency (ACOA), announced today the appointment of Gary Corsano
of Sydney to the ECBC Board of Directors.
“ECBC has an important role to play in the growth and development of the
Cape Breton Island economy, and board members must know and understand the
community,” said Minister Byrne. “Mr. Corsano, along with the other members
of the board, brings professional expertise and a passion for the growth and
development of the Island. I am pleased that he has agreed to serve the
community as a member of the ECBC Board of Directors.”
A graduate of Gonzaga University, Dalhousie University and the University of
New Brunswick, Mr. Corsano has been a partner in the law firm of Sampson
McDougall since 1991. He practices in the areas of civil litigation,
business, employment and labour, health, oil and gas, administrative and
aboriginal law.
Mr. Corsano has served as past president of the Nova Scotia Branch of the
Canadian Bar Association and as a member of its national executive
committee. He is a member of both the Nova Scotia and the Cape Breton
Barristers’ Societies.
An active community volunteer, Mr. Corsano is the past president of the
Kiwanis Club of Sydney and past secretary of Junior Achievement Cape Breton.
He is currently a member of the Board of Governors of the University College
of Cape Breton and Commodore of the Royal Cape Breton Yacht Club.
Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation offers programs in support of economic
development initiatives and is responsible for delivering ACOA's programs on
Cape Breton Island and in the Mulgrave area.
