The Sweet Taste of Success

Sydney, N.S.
– A Cape Breton favourite will soon be available in stores across Nova Scotia due to the expansion of a local producer of premium quality ice cream. Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation’s (ECBC) investment in the project was announced today by the Honourable Mark Eyking, MP for
Sydney-Victoria.

C&C Ice Cream, makers of Marvelous Moos Homemade Ice Cream, is undertaking a marketing and capital expansion program that will enable the company to expand into new markets. As a result, Marvelous Moos will soon be available in major grocery and convenience stores across the province.

“The Government of Canada is pleased to assist local business people achieve their goals,” says the Honourable Mark Eyking, MP for Sydney-Victoria. Through the expansion of C&C Ice Cream, the owners are not only investing in their company, they are investing in Cape Breton. This creates positive
spin-offs for the entire community.”

Originally started as a seasonal business, C&C has been in operation for over five years. It is the only locally-owned and operated ice cream manufacturer on Cape Breton Island. In 2001, the company was purchased by the current owners, Charles Bradley and Jim Difiore. They have recently negotiated with Sobeys to have Marvelous Moos available in Sobeys stores in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.

“Cape Bretoners know good ice cream and their response to Marvelous Moos has been great. That is why we are proceeding with our expansion plans. Now the rest of the province will have an opportunity to experience some of the best premium ice cream on the market, made right here in Sydney,” says
Jim Difiore, co-owner of C&C.

The total estimated cost of the project is $141,000. Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation will provide a repayable contribution of $86,000 through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency’s Business Development Program. The remainder of the investment, which will create two additional jobs, will be sourced by the business’s co-owners.

Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation offers programs in support of economic development initiatives and is responsible for delivering ACOA's programs on Cape Breton Island and in the Mulgrave area.
