FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 12, 2005
Capturing the Music in the Air
Point Aconi, NS –– Lake Wind Sound Studios Limited is a Cape Breton
success story. Winner of five consecutive “Studio of the Year” ECMA awards,
multiple Music Industry of Nova Scotia Awards, and a standing nominee for
2005, the Studio is one of the best in Canada and around the world.
“With events such as the East Coast Music Awards being held in Sydney this
February, Cape Breton is gaining recognition internationally for its home
grown musical talent,” says Mark Eyking, MP for Sydney-Victoria on behalf of
the Honourable Joseph McGuire, Minister for Enterprise Cape Breton
Corporation (ECBC) and Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
“Today’s recording technology makes geographical location much less a factor
in the global market place and we have seen growing demand for this world
class recording space,” says Fred Lavery, president of Lake Wind Sound
Studios Limited. “Meeting this demand with the proper facilities encourages
local talent to record here in Cape Breton. It also allows us to attract
more international artists.”
Lake Wind Sound Studios Limited has a growing customer base of musicians and
corporate clients. Offering recording and mixing services as well as pre and
postproduction for film and television, the studio has a complete range of
services available to the industry. With assistance from Enterprise Cape
Breton Corporation, the company recently underwent an expansion of the
facility and increased its technical capacity. A state of the art orchestra
size recording room designed by internationally renowned Pilchner Schoustal
of Toronto and Los Angeles, and new specialized controls and mixing
equipment has enabled Lake Wind Sound Studios Limited to compete for clients
on a national and international level.
The two principals, Fred Lavery and Gordie Sampson, along with award winning
recording engineer, Michael Shepherd, have extensive backgrounds in the
music industry. All are excited about the new prospects. “This is good for
the local economy and it puts Cape Breton on the international map of the
music world,” says Gordie Sampson. “Support from the Government of Canada
has helped our company grow over the last several years.
The total cost of the latest expansion project was $120,000. ECBC provided
Lake Wind Sound Studios Limited with a repayable contribution of
$55,000 through ACOA’s Business Development Program.
Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation offers programs in support of economic
development initiatives and is responsible for delivering ACOA's programs on
Cape Breton Island and in the Mulgrave area.
