INTEGRATION AND INTERPRETATION SECTION

The Integration & Interpretation Section of the Atlantic Region Environmental Science Centre provides the link between laboratory science and applied natural and physical scientists using investigative and experimental methods to measure, assess, interpret and respond to changes in environmental parameters and processes, indicators of environmental health and human interactions with the environment.

The Section is comprised of a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and technicians using a variety of skills in GIS (Geographic Information Systems), Remote Sensing, Database Design and Management, Statistical Analysis, Environmental Modeling and Multi-Media Software Development to integrate lab-generated data with other types of environmental data and information to assist scientists in understanding issues such as the impacts of forestry operations on biodiversity in the region, the impact of long range transport of airborne pollutants on ecosystem health, the impact of man's encroachment upon wetlands in the region and habitat loss on wildlife populations, and to help assess the probable environmental impacts of proposed projects in the region which fall under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.
