The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) takes
positive measures to enhance the vitality of French-language minority
communities in Atlantic Canada.
Economic Development Groups
ACOA works closely with Francophone economic organizations
to keep them informed of the vast range of services available to Francophone
entrepreneurs and businesses. These groups include the:
- the Conseil économique du Nouveau-Brunswick;
- the Centre Joudrey in Nova Scotia;
- Association régionale de la côte ouest in Newfoundland
and Labrador;
- the Société de développement de la Baie acadienne
in Prince Edward Island
ACOA also works with regional economic development authorities,
commissions and boards, such as the Réseau de développement
économique et d’employabilité (a francophone network
of economic development and employability). The Agency holds regular consultations
with these and other French-speaking organizations and plays an active
role in workshops, meetings and consultation sessions.
Partnerships and Collaboration
ACOA also works directly with representatives of official
language minority communities throughout Atlantic Canada to meet their
economic development needs. An average yearly funding of $10 million is
dedicated to meet this objective.
In addition, ACOA keeps abreast of community needs
by maintaining close relations with various stakeholders, such as business
leaders, industry associations, business groups, institutions and universities.
