$50 million has been provided for the UAS over a four-year period. With this money, UAS will develop pilot projects to test new ideas on how to better respond, through partnerships, to the local needs of urban Aboriginal people. Partners will include provincial and municipal governments, local Aboriginal organizations, non-government organizations and the private sector.

There are now 13 cities with UAS projects. During 2005 four new cities began pilot projects: Prince George, British Columbia; Prince Albert, Saskatchewan; Lethbridge, Alberta; and Thompson, Manitoba. Ther thirteenth city to join in 2006 is Ottawa, Ontario.
