What is JEDI?
Created in 1995, JEDI is a unique forum of
open dialogue that brings together
representatives of New Brunswick’s
Aboriginal communities, the Government of
Canada and the Province of New Brunswick.
Encouraging a streamlined, cooperative approach,
JEDI works to facilitate undertakings that stimulate
economic development and promote well-being
among Aboriginal people throughout the province.
How it works
JEDI achieves its objectives through the work of
seven working groups.
Plenary Group: seeks input and guidance from
Aboriginal individuals and groups, promotes an
open process and better access to information
related to Aboriginal economic development
and encourages coordination among partners.
Community Economic Development
Committee: fosters a holistic approach to
Aboriginal economic development through
communication, networking, entrepreneurship
development and capacity building.
Cultural Awareness Committee: advocates for
the development, implementation, and
coordination of Mi’kmaq and Maliseet cross-cultural
awareness activities within the
governments of Canada and New Brunswick, as
well as the private sector.
Procurement and Joint Venture Committee:
identifies federal procurement and joint venture
opportunities for Aboriginal businesses, promotes
partnerships to increase procurement
opportunities, communicates pertinent
information to government agencies, Aboriginal
groups and businesses, assists in clarifying the
procurement process.
Employment Placement Committee: identifies
ways of increasing Aboriginal workforce
participation in public and private sectors,
explores new employment approaches by
identifying traditional obstacles and determining
ways to alleviate them.
Resource Sectors Committee: works with federal
and provincial departments to identify potential
economic opportunities in the natural resource
sector, supports and encourages the development
of Aboriginal projects related to natural resources.
Communications Committee: shares economic
development information; increases public
awareness and program visibility.
