Ever wondered what kind of occupations you can consider with the education you have now, or the occupations you could have if you went back to school?

There are 6 different education levels described below. Scroll down, read the descriptions for each one, then click on the links to see the occupations associated with that level.


Bachelor or Masters University Programs: NOC Level 1

Occupations usually requiring a university education at the bachelor's or master's or doctorate level.

Community College/CEGEP Programs: NOC Level 2

Occupations usually require college education or apprenticeship training. Two to three years of post-secondary education at a community college, institute of technology or CEGEP; or Two to four years of apprenticeship training; or Three to four years of secondary school and more than two years of on-the-job training, specialized training courses or specific work experience.

Occupations with supervisory responsibilities and occupations with significant health and safety responsibilities, such as firefighters, police officers and registered nursing assistants are all assigned the skill level 2.

Community College/CEGEP Programs: NOC Level 3

Occupations usually requiring a community college/CEGEP or trade education, or apprenticeship training. Two to three years of post-secondary education at a community college, institute of technology or CEGEP; or Two to four years of apprenticeship training; or Three to four years of secondary school and more than two years of on-the-job training, specialized training courses or specific work experience.

Community College/CEGEP Programs: NOC Level 4

Occupations usually require secondary school and/or occupation-specific training. One to four years of secondary school education; Up to two years of on-the-job training, specialized training courses or specific work experience.

Trade/Vocational Programs: NOC Level 5

Occupations usually requiring a high school diploma and/or job-specific training. One to four years of secondary school education; Up to two years of on-the-job training, specialized training courses or specific work experience.

Trade/Vocational Programs: NOC Level 6

Occupations usually requiring on-the-job training. Up to two years of secondary school and short work demonstration or on-the-job training.
