Ropes and Tackle

Before working, always inspect the rope you will be using – whether it is a lifeline, gantline, or stage rope. Check for damage, and make sure it is right for the job. Your life may depend on it.

Fibre Rope

DO NOT hang a large crate from a fraying rope.Know the safe working load of the rope, and don’t exceed the limit.

DO NOT let rope fray by rubbing against a sharp corner.Abrasion will weaken a rope. Wrap and tie chafing gear around the rope where rubbing occurs.

DO NOT put sudden strain on a rope.Avoid sudden strains or jerks, which can snap a rope.

DO NOT pull a kinked rope through a block.Never load a kinked rope or pull it through a block.
