The transportation accessibility R&D; program has the following goals:

• to undertake R&D; to support policy decisions and to assist Transport Canada and the Canadian Transportation Agency in the development of regulations
• to develop guidelines and standards that will increase the safety and accessibility of transportation systems for elderly and disabled persons
• to develop and adapt technology and systems with the aim of eliminating travel barriers in all modes for elderly persons and those with mobility, sensory, or cognitive disabilities
• to investigate emerging technologies and to take advantage of national and international R&D; developments related to transportation accessibility
• to disseminate the results of TDC’s research to national and international policy makers, researchers, operators, manufacturers, and consumers
