Public Health Nursing

Where can I get information on public health nursing?

The objectives of Public Health Nursing programs are to provide health-related services that are equally accessible to all Islanders; services that will prevent the outbreak of and consequences of communicable and social diseases; services for the early detection and prevention of illness; and health education programs for the promotion of health and healthy lifestyles.

Public Health Nurses work with individuals, families and groups in neighbourhoods, schools, workplaces and homes, to preserve and protect health. Public Health Nurses also work as part of regional health teams that have common areas of interest. Public Health Nurses know their local communities and can provide information on other services and resources that meet specific health needs.
