Director of Residential Rental Property

Who can I contact concerning landlords' and tenants' rights?

If you have a concern about the rental of a residential property, you may contact the Director of Residential Rental Property (formerly known as the Rentalsman). The office of the Director is located at the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission (IRAC).

What does the Director of Residential Rental Property (Rentalsman) do?

The Director, or an officer delegated by the Director, is primarily responsible for dealing with disputes between landlords (lessors) and tenants (lessees). Matters before the Director include issues relating to a rental agreement, such as:

  • good behaviour
  • condition of the premises
  • subletting
  • entry of property
  • quiet enjoyment
  • delivery of possession
  • mobile homes
  • rent owing
As well as matters involving security deposits, the termination of a lease agreement and rent increases.

For more information, please refer to the Rental of Residential Property Act, and the Rental of Residential Property Act Regulations.

Application forms are available at all Access PEI locations or from the Related Forms section of this page. Applicable fees can be paid at all Access PEI locations.
