The Agency's activities for the implementation of Section 41 of the Official Languages Act in the 1996-97 fiscal year, are listed below. These activities reflect the Agency's commitment to work with minority-language communities in their economic development efforts throughout Atlantic Canada. This includes support to Francophone economic activity particularly with Francophone SMEs, young and women entrepreneurs, and organizations involved in economic development.

The Commissioner of Official Languages has acknowledged ACOA's work by naming it on the Merit List 1996 for the development of the minority-language communities both on a Pan-Atlantic level and, particularly, in New Brunswick.
