A Portrait of Women Business Owners in Atlantic Canada 2003 |
The following report was commissioned by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) in an effort to establish an in-depth look at the current situation of women business owners in Atlantic Canada.
This study includes both primary and secondary research. Primary research was undertaken to establish baseline data regarding women business owners in Atlantic Canada. This data will help with future evaluations of ACOA's Women in Business Initiative as well as program and policy development. Information from secondary research was also compiled to provide a profile of women entrepreneurs in Canada and Atlantic Canada.
Four hundred women business owners participated in this study, which was conducted in March 2003. These entrepreneurs reveal valuable insight into the status, aspirations and issues of concern for women business owners in the Atlantic region. Areas of research include owner and business profile information, exporting, innovation, financing, business management skills, training and other support needs, specific challenges, and ways in which ACOA could provide support.
