Atlantic Canada's Exports, with a Focus on SMEs and Rural Regions
The study entitled Atlantic Canada's Exports, with a Focus on SMEs and Rural Regions was prepared by Mr. Pierre-Marcel Desjardins of the Canadian Institute for Research on Regional Development. This policy research, which received financial support from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), is yet another example of the Agency's efforts to promote international trade and improve the region's economic development.
The report illustrates the relatively good performance of the region's exports over the past decade, the region's success in Eastern American markets, the strong contribution of Atlantic Canada's rural areas and natural resource-based industries to the region's export growth, overall support in the business community for government assistance in international market development, and suggestions on ways of improving such assistance.
