The Association of Atlantic Universities (AAU) commissioned a study that examined the economic impact of Atlantic Canada's universities in their communities and local regions. The study provided an in-depth examination of the role of universities as an industry, including aspects such as employment and income, construction, operations and students and visitors. It also examined trends such as enrolment, participations rates, and international diversity. The study also looked at research funding and activity, and the important role played by Atlantic universities in R&D.
