Productivity: Key to Economic Success
March 1998
The world's leading expert on competitiveness has suggested that the principal economic goal of a nation
is to produce high and rising living standards for its citizens. The ability to do so depends on the
productivity with which a nation's resources (labour and capital) are employed. This study, carried out
for ACOA by the Centre for the Study of Living Standards, provides a comprehensive overview of the
productivity issue, examining concepts and trends, as well as the determinants of productivity growth in
the Canadian context.
