Atlantic Canada and the Future: Trends, Challenges and Opportunities
September 1997
The world is a rapidly changing place where advances in technology are contributing to rapid growth and
change in the world economy. The impacts and implications of globalization for Atlantic Canada are the
focus of this new study carried out by the North American Policy Group at Dalhousie University.
The research team at NAPG identify and examine the economic, demographic and political trends, challenges
and opportunities facing Atlantic Canada in a global and national context. While the effects of these
trends can have differing impacts on countries and regions, the authors suggest that diversification in
an economy yields flexibility in responding to change and offers the best prospect for reacting to the
impact of these trends.
